Josef
Spiegel, PhD, specializes in the treatment of child abuse
and neglect, preparation for and enhancement of intimate relationships,
and life purpose exploration and actualization. A former research associate
at Columbia University and a former professor at Boston University,
Dr. Spiegel is a psychotherapist, an author, a presenter at local, national
and international conferences, and a treatment consultant and trainer
in the areas of childhood sexual abuse, human relationships and sexuality,
and anxiety. He is author of the book, SAMSexual Abuse of Males:
The SAM Model of Theory and Practice, recently published by Brunner-Routledge
of the Taylor & Francis Group in NY. He is currently writing a play
that focuses on the sexual abuse of males.
Dr.
Spiegel's clinical experience encompasses work with children and adults
with histories of sexual abuse, male and female perpetrators, individuals
experiencing addictions to drugs, alcohol and sex, individuals and couples
seeking to build and strengthen intimate relationships, individuals,
families and groups searching for and actualizing purpose in their lives,
and individuals confronting anxiety and depression. Research efforts
include local and national studies that address abuse dynamics and effects,
with particular emphases on sexual self-concept, relational issues and
HIV-risk behaviors.
